The Three Important Philosophers Socrates, Plato, and...

There were many important greek philosophers. They all said something that is still known today. Some of these ideas are still accepted today as true. Three of these important philosophers are Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. They have all said something that is still accepted in modern society. Socrates was a greek philosopher that lived from four-hundred-sixty-nine BCE to three-hundred-ninety-nine BCE. He is one of the most influential Greek philosophers. He created the socratic method which, is a method of thinking where a person asks a question in a circle. After the question is posed the rest of the circle goes around one by one answering the question. He served in the military until the Peloponnesian war ended on 404 BCE. After leaving the Athenian military he joined the Thirty Tyrants which was a group of thirty aristocrats that joined up after the Peloponnesian war. The group was violent which later caused Plato to leave them. When Socrates was executed Plato was convinced that he should leave Athenian politics. He left Attica and traveled for twelve years to Egypt. â€Å"After 399 BC Plato began to write extensivel y.† (European Graduate School, Plato) He wrote the Socratic dialogues, but it is unknown when. In 387 BCE he traveled back to Athens where he established â€Å"The Academy.† Plato was invited to be Dionysus the second’s personal tutor in 367 BCE. At the time Dionysus the second was the ruler of Syracuse. In 365 BCE Syracuse went to war causing Plato to return to Athens. When Plato returned to Athens Aristotle began to learn at â€Å"The Academy.†He died in 347 BCE at the age of 81. Aristotle was a Greek philosopher who lived from 384 BCE to 322 BCE. He considered one of the most influential philosophers that ever lived.
